About the Topics

The topics at the top of the page are a major key to this project. Each reviewer is asked to devote considerable thought and attention to the selection of both general and specific keywords that will help to classify the major contribution of a given piece of scholarship and help to relate that work to others in the field.

This particular benefit of this portion of the project will only be as good as the classification process. But, as this is an inherently subjective process, our approach is to allow multiple contributors to continually edit, and re-edit, the content of the "labels" section for articles as our vision of the field continues to expand and evolve.

As we note new subtleties or distinctions in the contours of the field, it may require us to go back and separate out two or more subgroups from a collection of articles that formerly bore just one sort of label. The process is messy, to say the least, but our hope is that in spite of these limitations, we will be able to provide a useful tool for education, if not for formal analysis of the field.

Lastly, you can help us! If you see an article that you believe should be tagged with an additional label, feel free to note this in the comments section for that entry. If you find yourself doing this a lot, consider joining our effort!
